Plan Your Perfect PEC Summer Staycation

With things beginning to reopen and locals able to stretch their legs again, it finally feels like we are able to start getting back into a normal summer. What better way to celebrate than by falling in love with your own community all over again by planning the perfect summer staycation.

Prince Edward County (PEC) offers any vacationer a picturesque backdrop to a relaxing getaway. There are plenty of things to do, places to see, local boutiques to shop at and restaurants to dine.

Start Your Staycation at One of Our Properties

The key to an awesome staycation is all about location. Where are you going to rest your head after a full day of wining and dining, or have a games night with your fellow staycationers? Typically a staycation means that you might be staying at home and spending your days out rediscovering your local community, but why not fully step into the swing of the County and stay somewhere in the heart of it all! There are plenty of Airbnb's to choose from (although plenty of them are almost fully booked by now, so don't wait!) and so many other beautiful accommodations, that you are sure to find the perfect spot for your relaxing getaway!

The CAPE Mansion

Situated on "mansion row", one block from Picton Harbour, The CAPE is a landmark geographically, historically and architecturally. Meticulously restored and renovated, The CAPE's reception rooms, stunning façade, veranda, and extensive garden create the perfect canvas for your dream staycation.

The Mansion is home to four immaculate suites - The Elizabeth Taylor King, Richard Burton King, Cary Grant King and Audrey Hepburn Queen - each decorated with luxury and comfort in mind. Stepping into any of these rooms is like taking a step back in time to old Hollywood glam. Rooms can be booked individually, or guests can book out the entire house to create the perfect family retreat. Any booking includes all the luxury linens, towels and toiletries as well a complimentary continental breakfast.

The Reach Guesthouse

Situated in one of the most desirable areas of Prince Edward County, The Reach Guesthouse is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Guests can sit on the private deck and immerse themselves in the scenery. The delightful smell of wood, calming quietness, and overall serenity of the Guesthouse gives any occupant a sense of inner peace. With easy access to nature trails, visitors can explore the area by foot or bicycle. The house sits on 10 acres of

private property with direct access to a woodland

trail that leads to 800ft of waterfront. As you make your way down the trail it slowly descends to access a new wood deck at the water's edge - a perfect location to set up a yoga mat and participate in an early morning meditation. Nearby, Fifth Town Cheese, Waupoos Winery, County Cider and Lake on the Mountain offer an excellent snapshot of County offerings. Large and bright, this house features an exceptional eat in kitchen, as well as rustically designed living and sleeping spaces.

There is still some availability left to stay with us at The Reach, but spots are filling up! Click here to book now!

Even if you can't stay with us, there are SO many amazing places in the County for you to check out, so keep reading for more tips and ideas on how to make this your best staycation yet!

Explore The Area

PEC is known for so many things and we could go on and on about what to do and where to go and what to we have shortened it to a list of how to maximize the fun while rediscovering the area:

  1. Find a guide book for your area or region at a local book store and see what activities interest you. Also, ask your accommodations host for recommendations! Chances are they are from the area and know it like the back of their hand, and these folks will be able to give you the best insight to exploring the County. Want a head-start planning your staycation? Check out these great things to do!

  2. Carson's Garden Market is definitely a must-see while visiting the County. Do some shopping and then grab lunch from Flossie's Sandwich Parlour!

  3. Book a Wine Tour (and Brewery!) - this is a definite must-do on your list of activities to do while in the County. You can book tours online through different tour sites, but if you have your own list of places you'd like to check out, you can always make your own wine tour route and be sure to either have a designated driver or hire a private service for! Explore Tours, Wineries, Breweries, and More!

  4. Check out the local eats - there are SO many fabulous restaurants in the County, you would need longer than a weekend to check them ALL out! If you're a planner (like me!) you will want to make reservations as many of the restaurants here are always busy. Here is a great link with all of the local restaurants and links to their websites! If you're a last minute nelly and need some recommendations, ask around town while you are out exploring. Again, the locals will be your best friends and help you find the perfect spot to dine!

  5. Get out of the car! - try renting bicycles for the day to do your tour of the county, or spend an afternoon renting paddle boards, kayaks or canoes and get out on the water

  6. ICE CREAM - you can't say you staycationed in the County if you didn't get ice cream from Slickers!

  7. Head to the beach - if you are wanting to spend a day at Sandbanks (or any of the provincial beaches in the County), you will want to think ahead. All guests coming to the beaches require a day pass (even if you're just there for some morning yoga or sunset photos) and need to be pre-registered for a parking space prior to arriving to the beach

Be Sure to Leave Reviews

The sand is on everything, everyone smells like sunscreen, the car is packed up and the bottles of wine to take home are perched on top of all the bags and suitcases. Your summer staycation in PEC is winding to a close, but there is one thing left for you to do: LEAVE A REVIEW! Positive feedback and great reviews not only help your hosts, but also help fellow visitors to the County plan their trip! Be a good sport and leave some reviews however, if something wasn't what it should have been, or you weren't completely satisfied, message your host, the restaurant, whomever it was, directly as opposed to leaving a negative review.

Staycations are a great way to unwind and rediscover all that your own community and surrounding area has to offer. Whatever your interests are, Prince Edward County offers something for everyone.
